We just had house guests from Montreal, etc. for a few days and it was really great. Nice to see that even during a rainy day playing games six people can comfortably hang out in the cabin. It’s been a relaxing little while for me because I just came back from Halifax too.
My major accomplishments have been making a composting toilet which may or may not include a lawn chair in the design.
Also indoor plumbing! Which is the sink hooked up to authentic pipes leading outside on to an ant hill. I am very enthusiastic about no longer having to have a bucket of water under the sink. On top of this is, of course, more digging and planting… and much more to come.
The garden is growing, but it’s slow going- a few days of warm weather were followed by cool, sometimes rainy days. The peas are thriving, a single mottled purple and green bean has sprouted, and beets are starting to come up. A few other things seem to be doing OK, too.
Tadpoles and frogs are thriving in little ponds, and there is an owl pellet on the side of the driveway, evidence of the owls I’ve heard in the evening. Also interesting is that I found a small spring, which I would like to test to see if the water is drinkable.
